此部分仔細說明各介系詞與動詞，時態組合時的基本意義，學習者如果能習得這些基本涵意，即使不知某動詞該接什麼樣的介系詞，也可從動詞的涵意猜測出可能的介系詞。

FROM／TO／THAN Different 是個頗簡單的形容詞，不過，有兩方面要提出比較時，用什麼 preposition 才算正確呢？
1.	My plan is different from yours。
2.	My plan is different to yours。
3.	My plan is different than yours。
	正宗語法規定用的 preposition，只有from 一個。英國人很多都接受了 different to，即使保守的人也不能否認有時用 to 是較佳的選擇，即如： The country（that）I come from is different from yours。這短短的一句竟然用了 from 兩次，形成 awkward style，所以不如這樣說：The country I come from is different to yours。美國人很多都接受了 different than，原因有二：
	一.	他們把 different 當作比較式形容詞，等於 better，faster 之類。
	二.	用 than 可以避免繁複的句子結構，即如：
		1.	We are going to a different restaurant from the one we went to last week。用 than 代 from，好像可以把句子簡化： We are going to a different restaurant than（we did）last week。
		2.	用副詞 differently：
			He is singing the song differently from the way he sang it before。
			He is singing the song differently than（he did）before。
在以上例句中，than 已經不是 preposition，它是 cojunction。括弧中的子句（clausc）可省去。這是頗複雜的語法分析，只宜參考。請注意修辭上的一點：
1.	There are 50 different people。
2.	We visited 50 different countries。
以上的 different，中譯「不同」，是多餘的，因為「五十個人」及「五十個國家」各有不同是理所當然的。反過來說，世上斷沒有五十個相同的人或五十個相同的國家。

	Sam writes about／on politics for a newspaper。山姆為一家報紙寫政治性文章。

	John often argues with his friends about／over money。約翰常為了錢的事與朋友爭吵。
	Cindy is still bargaining with that salesman about／over the price of the microwave oven。辛蒂還在和那推銷員為微波爐的價錢討價還價。
	Our boss refused to negotiate with us about our wage claim。我們老闆拒絕和我們協商有關工資的要求。
	They often joke about the crazy things they did before。他們常常拿自己過去做過的瘋狂事開玩笑。

	I agree with you about／on this movie，it is terrific。我同意你對這部影片的看法，真是棒極了。
	Don’t worry about what she thinks，her opinion doesn’t carry much weight。別擔心她怎麼想。她的意見沒有多大影響。
	He doesn’t care about his future。他不在乎他的未來。
	Simon is always fussing about the travel arrangements。西門總是對旅行的安排大驚小怪。
	Jane is still hesitating about／over whether to join the club。珍依然對是否加入俱樂部猶豫不決。
	Sometimes I wonder about her behavior。我有時對她的行為感到疑惑。

	In the present political climate few issues can cut across party lines。在目前的政治氣候下，很少議題能跨越黨派。
